do you have to use the cable co.'s box,or can you run it straight in to your t.v. does the tv have to have certin technology to support this?

You HAVE to use the cable box, even if your TV is digital ready (HD), you need the box to decode the signal, and send it to your TV. And use componenet video cables. They are expensive, but the inprovement you get with them and digital cable is amazing!!!

You need the box that's what tranforms the signal from analog to digital, if you don't use the box you'll only get regular cable.

Being that I work for Comcast,
For Digital cable, you have to have a box to operate all the digital features your cable company might offer..ppv access, onscreen tv guide..ect..

For standard analog cable, you dont have to have a box, you wont have any actual features, but at least you'll be able to have 60 or so cable channels depending on your package.

In my case... Regular channels come in fine just set up into the tv... its the digital channels(hbo cinemax showtime etc.) that need the box..... also for ppv movies you need a box! That and porn!
