bkent has his wired with 4 gauge straight into the amp(with the exception of passing through the 120 amp circuit breaker under the hood). He also has upgraded the battery ground. I would like to test bkents amp to see how many watts it's putting out, I read in the latest Car Audio and Electronics that it can be done with a multimeter and a few calculations...any truth in that? I say let the lights dim...do what you can(like upgrading the ground at the battery, making sure the wires are the correct gauge for the wattage/length) and leave it alone. Cars weren't meant to have huge amps(unless you count the Ford Premium Sound amp...lol  ). Now, if you fried the stock alternator and had to replace it anyways, maybe a high output alternator wouldn't be a bad idea. As for me, I have a ways to go before I have to worry about dimming lights, not everyone can be big shots like you guys...lol

I got a quote from the mean green alternator guy, he said $369 shipped to my door for a HO alternator, I believe it was 200 amps, and a direct bolt on. He probably just rewinds a new contour alt., I'm not sure. For 400 bucks I can live with dimming lights...
Tony D, I wouldn't say "bye, bye battery" as I only run my system with the car on, more like "bye, bye alternator". When the stock one goes I'll be calling that green guy. I was looking into getting an isolater and a second battery for the trunk, but that was gettting to be $200+ estimated price so once again I can live with dimming lights...

I don't think you could test power w/a a regular Volt/multi-meter , prolly couldn't handle the amps - 400? not bad IMO but I'm sure a good decrease in HP would happen, my friends superduty only has a 110amp altrn - no lights dimm'n only the revs hehe

All of the American products have components from Alps Electric Comp. & are American. Even alot of different options you can get on new alpine ( ie: BBS(former Barry Barcus Electronics), RDS, & the entire "bass engine" tech. ) where designed here in America. There corps are in Japen, BUT ever since there Lambo installs in 78+ they have prided American technology.[/b]Every Alpine product I own says made in China, only the speakers (SPR-175A) were designed in the USA, but still made in China. Everything else (V12 MRV-T757, CDA-7876) was desinged in Japan. It is true that BBE (The new models coming in may don't even use this) and certain features are from here, but the rest was built by a 6 year old boy for $.09/hr. :p

I just got off the phone with Alpine and according to the person I talked to, they do not have any amplifier or HU mfg locations in the US.
