yours is the better. Basically (i'm not sure on all the EXACT specs but) the duratec is a V6 and the zetec is just a 4. Zetec's have 16 valves and Duratecs have 24. and i think its like 20-30hp more with the duratec. congrats.

To quote "The Canadian Used Car Guide 2001-2002" Quote:
The 4-Cyl engine and the SVT model are really quite powerful
Quote:
Good fuel economy with the reasonably powerful 4-cyl engine, esp when coupled to a manual
Quote:
The V6 engine(non-svt) performance are pretty disappointing, for both accelerations and pick-up are no more muscular than those of the 4-cyl engine which doesn't burn as much gas
With this fact, they did publish better numbers but, I've driven both and I don't feel 45Hp faster.
Let the flaming begin.

haha, sounds like the zetec can keep up pretty darn well with the duratec. I'm not sure myself, never driven a V6 duratec. I wanted to get an engine swap but from those stats, i'm thinking i'll stick with my small but powerful zetec!

I really can't comment directly on that, since I've only driven Duratecs, but I can attest to the difference between a non-SVT Duratec w/ ATX and an SVT w/ MTX. The butt dyno shows a noticeable difference.
At the track back in August for the national meet, a non-SVT Duratec w/ MTX ran about 2-3 seconds faster than a Zetec w/ ATX in the quarter mile. However, I'm sure the tranny accounted for a good part of that difference, so its not really a fair comparison. Plus, the Zetec was Hector's, and I think he was having some timing issues at the time.

The Butt Dyno was good when I tested friends Duratec, and nicer sound. Mine stock was about .3 sec slower than atx V6's in ΒΌ mile. The stock Zetec atx can't brake 16's I believe, yet.

I think the Zetec wins the durability comparison, though. What, with oil starvation, IMRC failures, and bad water pumps and all on the Duratec.

Not in my family they don't.
96 Mystique Zetec ATX - water pump blew at about 120K and my brother kept driving and blew the engine.
95 Mystique Duratec MTX - Water pump blew at 150K my parents noticed it and got off the road and to a shop. Car worked fine for another 10K until my brother got in a accident with it.
The 96 Zetec had many more issues during it's life than the 95 Duratec.

Duratec (standard) has +45 HP and about +30T. Given the same tranny you could not help but notice a big difference. At least 1.0 sec in the 1/4th.. Zetec a bit better on gas but not much with both giving 30+ MPG highway.
More parts for zetec but even with big bux a N/A zetec will be hard pressed to outperform a Duratec with bolt ons.. One guy spent $5000 IIRC to get a British Zetec to 165 FWHP N/A...same as a stock SVT Duratec. And 3L Duratecs are another cheap option for 200+ FWHP.
Main zetec advantage...turbo. The kit is cheaper, the forged internals are cheaper, and its a simpler overall deal. If you are planning N/A..Duratec. But get a zetec for FI..
