Actually some zetec Contours had tachs as well, even ones with autos... It's all plug and play.. Just buy the cluster for about $25 at local junkyard or
www.car-parts.com (specify your exact model) and remove old cluster (some screws can be hard to get to, but not a big deal) on 96+ there are two connectors back there, connect them and you're good to go. For 95s, it may be different.
