After doing a search I've heard everything from scosche fd-02, fdk-15 to metra 5514. What is it really? I'm heading off to walmart tonight and I don't want to waste a trip to find out they don't have what I need. I have the stupid amp and it has a smallish rectangular plug and an even smaller square plug. I've done a search so I pretty much know the procedure, but now I'm confused as to what part # I need to look for. Thank you to anyone who can help me out and five stars to anyone who can do it before 8pm.

my wallmart (actually wallmart supecenter) in arlington, tx did not have the harness i needed. Frys's and bestbuy were sold out..circuit city is where i got miine..the guys in the install garage will cut you a deal. They sell metra harnesess there, for information about harness, check out the "metra guide" at www.the12volt.com its an awesome, indespensable web site for beginner radio install.

i ordered mine from crutchfield..if you have a rectangular plug and a square one, you definitly need the bypass harness, regardless if your door panel says premium sound system or not...mine doesn't say it but i had the square plug, which means the bypass harness is required...now i sit and wait for the ups man...

part #'s? Anyone. I'm not patient enough for Crutchfield or the UPS man right now. I am driving around w/o a radio/CD player and I've got the new HU half way wired. I've called Best Buy, Circuit City, Radio Shack and everyone says they have the metra 5514, but I've read that it does not fit so I don't want to waste time with that shiznit if I don't have to. Thanks for your replies guys, keep 'em coming.

Mine was done without the amp bypass kit(It can be done) You need to either know what color each wire is for + or - and to which speaker it goes. Or have a tester. It has been a while since I did mine but it just took time to figure out. I personaly bought the kit from a reputable dealer but he sold me the wrong one and didn't happen to have the correct one in stock so I took the harder route. I too didn't wish to wait. The biggest hassel was working in the small area behind the glove box.

Crutchfields seems to be the only place that actually has the right bypass adapter.. They ship super-fast, I got mine in 2 days, and I didn't even pay for fast delivery or anything. 2 days won't kill you

Yeah I recommend crutchfield as well. Just call em up and tell em' the year of your contour and type of stereo. They will send you the harness, more than enough wire, and the radio removal tools for $20!

you could try to splice it but what a head ache that could be...plus it can be messy and you'll increase your chances of trouble....i.e. shorts, fuses blowing...blah, blah, blah...just order the harness tomorrow and you'll have it wednesday...it will be easy...if you wait for the harness....good luck

Well guys, I went to Best Buy the guy showed me that the metra-5514 would fit after all. The only problem was that after wiring it all together the wires weren't long enough to reach from the head unit to the factory plug under the amp. uggggghhhhh. So I spent an hour wiring in an extension and all that. Now each wire has like four butt connectors and some are just spliced and silicon taped. I will redo the whole thing when I change out the speakers in the far future. I should have listened to all of you and ordered through crutchfield in the first place.

I just got a new CD player put in on Saturday at Circuit city and they said there was no such thing as an amp bypass. I know that there is, but I wanted a Cd player put in and I'm not running any allaborate stereo, but how hard is it to install the bypass once the CD player is already installed?
