Well, in case the e-mail never makes it there (WTF, Comcast?), I wanted to ask who's the service mgr to talk to at Jerry's for warranty/recall service. I hate going into service departments and not having at least a name and a clue.

Lets see,we have 3 service managers, chuck, fred, and lisa. You can also talk to my service writer his name is keith, when you pull in the lane, he sits at the desk almost to the end of the lane. He can also page me over the loud speaker, and I would be glad to help out a fellow contour owner, you could even request I work on your tour if you want(I seem to be the only tech there with respect for contours) Maybe we will see you there!
Chris

I just had my car in there a couple of days ago. You guys replaced the wheel bearings. Did you work on it by any chance? It's a black 98.5 CSVT. Russ was my service advisor.

I'll definitely contact you next time I bring it in for service.

Thats funny, I did not work on it, but I did confirm the problem. Whenever a contour comes in the shop, techs usually come ask my opinion on the problem. We also had a a silver E1 come in the same week for the same problem, which took me like 20 minutes to complete, and I believe we charged the customer 3 hours. Also a blue focus SVT came in with a hydrolocked motor last monday which I ended up putting a new motor in. Was that anyones here? We did not charge the customer the core charge, so guess who got to keep the motor! Any ideas on what to put this in? It should cost me next to nothing to overhaul. It only had 13,000 miles on it. I can get a 99 tour 5 spd 4 cyl, for $1,000 it needs a head, but that does not matter. What do you guys think?

I just was in today and talked to Keith around 1PM. He was, to put it mildly, skeptical. He said, basically, "if it's not acting up then we can't really fix it", even though I tried to explain to him why I was concerned and wanted the work done. He said he'd have one of his guys look into it and would also talk to you, Chris. I told him if the work was going to be done, I'd like you doing it. The other interesting thing, though, was he said that the coverage wouldn't expire. If THAT's the case (I want that in writing), then it's less of a big deal. We'll see.

BTW, a Focus SVT motor in a Contour? That would be pretty cool. Strip the car down for weight and make it an autocrosser.

Yeah, so you had the enjoyment of talking to keith, huh. Now you see what I go through everyday. He is one of those guys who fell and hurt his back like 2 years ago and refuses to get surgery so he can stay on oxycontin(sad really)Like I said when you come in just have him page me and I will take care of you. I will not be a work for the next 2 weeks though, I have a SVT performance class and a noise, vibration, and harshness class to attend. Just post when you plan to come up to jerrys, I will be glad to help. About the contour/focus hybrid, I plan on making it the ultimate sleeper!

Already got a call back from him. Basically, too bad, if it's not acting up, they won't cover it. I guess the thing to do is start an aggressive underhood wiring inspection and try to find bad wires. I know that "visual deterioration" is one of the criteria for authorizing a replacement. We'll see.
