Ever since my web person added more pictures to my site, it loads soooooooo sloooooooow. She says its my computer, which is partly true. But it wasn't this slow until the extra pix were added. I know that's the main reason but I want to know if it's slow for everyone else. From GoddessLune: Hey, this is Tom's "web person." I'm running cable internet at my place and I have no problem loading up his site and I'm trying to convince him that his computer with its AOL dial-up is just archaic. So, yeah, we're trying to figure out what you guys have since your his target audience. Doesn't matter what I see cuz I'm a loyal VW owner So if you could let him know what kind of connection you have and/or whether his site loads too slow for you it would be greatly appreciated Yeah, what she said. Sorry for all the words.

They say we have a t1 but I don't really believe it. It takes a min or two to load the page. But, she should realize not everyone has broadband (a lot of people don't) and shouldn't assume that. It's also written fairly poorly in the fact it loads the full image even though you only see the thumbnail

I'm running Cox high speed cable and it loaded in about 5 - 6 seconds, which is actually fairly slow for me. I would agree with Pete that the largest problem is that all of those pictures were ~460K. I played with one of the pictures a bit, and JUST by reducing the resolution to something more reasonable, I brought it below 100K. Remeber, typical I'net resolution is 72 pixels/inch.
Just my opinion. Site looks good, however!

I looked at your web site http://hometown.aol.com/wa2tuff/main.html and it takes a long time to load. A person with dialup might wait for the first image to load.
471kb is large for a picture that is 300 pixels x 226 pixels. The pictures could easily be reduced to less than 25kb file size without losing any picture quality. The web page would load about 19 times faster.
Here is a link to one of the pictures that the web page uses:
http://hometown.aol.com/wa2tuff//images/im000224.jpg
The picture is 1632 x 1232 pixels. HTML code was used to make the picture smaller on the web site but the file size is still 471kb large. Instead of using html to resize the picture they could use software to resize the photo to 300 x 226 pixels size. I used my photo editing program (IrfanVeiw) to resize the photo to 300 x 226 pixels and the file size went from 471kb to 24.9kb with better picture quality.
This is the HTML code that was used to resize the first car picture:
<a HREF=/wa2tuff/pic1.html><img src="/wa2tuff/images/im000224.jpg" border=0 width=300 height=226>

Sorry for the long post
GoddessLune here... I'm certainly not assuming that everyone has broadband, but Tom's computer is a lot older then what the average person has (i'm not making fun of him, he readily admits that its time for him to get a new computer, but he keeps spending all his money on his car instead) The site was created using AOL's website designer, so yeah, its not the greatest program out there to be using, but hey, it was free. I'm not entirely sure what your talking about when you say "it loads the full image even though you only see the thumbnail." If your talking about the fact that on the main page its the small "thumbnail" image, and then when you click it, it opens the same picture only full scale, I did that purposely, by the time I got to that part in designing the site I was sick of looking at PSP The main purpose of our original post was to find out whether or not the site loaded for the majority of CEG people, since your Tom's target for the site. If the majority of people say the site loads slow and they're not willing to wait for it to load, then by all means I'll take care of that and Tom can owe me more coffee But thank you for the input.
