Or just remember, electrical tape is your friend. If all else fails just strip the ends of the wires off of the HU and the harness and twist them together and tape them up. It will still be easy to disconnect the HU since the harness you got from radio shack plugs into the factory harness. I have never had any problems with the splice and tape approach.

Well I took your advice Pete, cut off the HU connectors but used butt connectors instead. That made it easier. However, I couldn't get the factory HU out no matter what I tried: ford keys, coat hangers. So after a lot of cursing, pulling, and breaking off the face and bending metal...I managed to push the HU into the dash and it still isn't out. I guess i'll try to break off the parts that hold it in and just slide it out. That POS is definitely goin' in the trash when I'm through with it.

After doing all the wiring for what I thought would be a standard Ford radio, I now discover I had "premium sound". So, I've got to order the amp bypass stuff and try this all again in a few days.
