Forgive me, I don't pst very often. Figuring I could find someone on here who knows more about Contours than I do or cars in general for that matter. I have about 90,000 miles on car, I had a tune up about 10-20,000 miles ago, I change my oil every 4000 or so miles, just changed the tires and had a 4 wheel alignment, changed Tranny fluid about 6,000 miles ago.. am I missing something? Shocks or struts (which ones come with this anyway) are fine. Am I missing something? I am driving to Phoenix in a few weeks from Saint Paul, and I have to drive back. What kind of preparations should I perform before I leave based on the info above. Any help would be most helpful.
BTW I have a 2000 Contour, 4 cyl,

Change the coolant, and maybe brake fluid and perhaps power-steering fluid. Check your brake pads too. You may want to grease up your front end too.

changed the breaks, I just need to clean the break rotors or pads because they still squeek and all, powersteering fluid...good idea and coolant is also. However, everytime I change my oil, Ford says coolant is okay...but I havent changed it in 2 years... LOL! I'll change it anyway. Thank you, should I run a diagnostic on my tranny to make sure there isn't a problem I don't know about?

I believe it's recommended for the coolant to be changed on most cars every two years, not because the anti-freeze itself wears out, but because the rust inhibitors in it do.

If the tune up didn't include spark plugs or wires, I'd do both.

Good luck.

Thank you all for all of your input. On Thursday, I'm going to have my Fuel Filter replaced. This has not been done on my car yet...might be a good idea. And changing out the Power Steering fluid. On Friday, I plan on having my coolant flushed. Even though I have had some minor issues with this, but should have a tranny diagnostic?
