Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle, so out of the box it's an exceptionally clean-running motor.

Thankyou. That's what I was wondering.

IIRC, what it really means is that its tailpipe emissions are equal to what the emissions are to produce the electricity to power an electric vehicle. Those emissions are the 900-pound gorilla in the corner that all the electric-vehicle greenie weenies ignore...

At 144-148HP and 150-152TQ that is Almost the same power the Twin Cam from GM put out in 1996. (150HP/155TQ and even that was "down" from the HO "Quad" versions from the early 90's!)

Fortunately for the General they only let the Ecotec replacement languish with an even lower output (140/150) for a couple years.
They plan 145, 170, and 200+ versions of it for next year.

Hopefully Ford/Mazda will respond with some 2.3L tweaking of their own.
We know a turbo would be a NO BRAINER...

Ahhh, that's very interesting. Thanks for filling in that detail.

I wonder what the emissions would be like after bolting a turbo into that void in the engine bay?
