#6 rod end bearing has spun. What caused it I'm not sure. Maybe the motor was bad in the first place. Maybe something happened while it sat for a couple years. I only spend 500 on the entire motor but all the time that went into it really gets me. I'm going to pick up another low mileage 3L, have the better bearings installed and hope for the best. At least I don't have to get the fuel rail and UIM stuff fabed up again. I'm going to just have Terry install the a new lump. I can't take up space in my friends garage again and my 1 stall detach is just too small to do this. The bright side is that I learned a lot. The downside is the $ I burned up. Here's to a "new" 3L this summer hopefully!

That sucks! To put all that effort and $ in and have something like that pop up I've had my Impala eating starters and now the flexplate. Brand spanking new 12:1 350 w/ +.060 bore and higher stall speed tq converter and reused the stock flexplate which went as toothless as hill folk this week. Moral-o-story: It's the dumbest, smallest things that are over looked that can come back to haunt you.....and I feel your pain

when my 2.5L died, I gave it to mmars, and he tore it apart and I believe the #6 bearing was the only bad in it too...weird

Oil pressure or engine harmonics.
I'd suspect oil pressure loss or flicker over high rpm damage myself.
Either way that really sucks.
Hope you get your another 3L back on the road sooner rather then later...

I have blown two 2.5L engines... the last one was definetly a rod end bearing, the other one was never taken apart, but that was the guess... I pick up the third one this saturday... will a DMD help the life on these things? Anone else have this happen to a 2.5, with or without DMD?
