This may seem wierd, but I am looking to put an automatic in a contour with a standard transmission. What is going to be the big problems with the swap, and how difficult is the job? Has anyone performed the opposite swap, or even this one for that matter?

Basically all the samethings required the perform the same operation with a ATX to MTX swap.

Here is a recent thread on this subject over at Fastcougar.com. As far as the price goes, you will be looking at pretty close to the same numbers and needs.

As far as anyone trying this here? Nope. There is Matt, who is doing the ATX-MTX swap, but noone here has done the other way around.

How long do you think the swap would take? It would be a good time for you, because I just put in a spec III clutch and Fidanza flywheel. It would definetly be worth the drive for the swap. Do you have any experience swaping transmissions? How many miles are on your transmission? My MTX is perfect as far as I can tell. I just need an automatic for my wife. If you are seriously interested, let me know and maybe we can work something out. I wont need the 3L though. (doesn't mean I don't want, but just can't have) I have a vacation in mid March.

it would have to wait till it gets warmer out cause it would be done in my driveway

right now my tranny has less than 4000 (not a typo, four thousand) miles on it. its from an 01 cougar.

it also has a high stall torque convertor, shiftkit, and sonnax valves.

and my experience, i built my whole 3L myself, and did the entire swap.

now about how long it would take, probably a few days if i work my ass off, a week tops. i wouldnt care about my car as id be putting a torsen in the tranny anyways so your car would be done as fast as possible!

Russell, I can't believe what I'm reading!! You are going to force me into a 3L swap. Come on mang, that ain't right!! Because I can't afford that right now...

Ok, well it is "your car", so I guess you can do whatever you want.

If you go Russell's way, the only thing you'll have to swap is keys and reg's.

When does it get warm in PA? I already have a friend that wants to make that road trip with me. It is only a 23 hour drive. I would probably make a few days out of the drive, then I could give you my car for 3-5 days and make the drive home.
