I'm new to car audio, but I've been doing my homework here. I did search for this and found nothing useful. I am going to buy a Nakamichi cd-40z off of e-bay for about 190 buck w/ shipping. What kind of wiring harness will be needed and where do I get them.

Good deal on Nak. Wiring harness will depend on if you have a premium stereo or not - Go to WallMart - i believe they got cheapest prices(6-9$) for harness and you wouldn't have to wait for it to be shipped. Just look for correct one - premium\standard. Also if you get a premium stereo - I believe you'll need an amp bypass.

If you have a choice - get Nak with Green display so it will match your car interior.

Easiest thing to do (especially for a car audio newbie) is to order a car stereo installation kit from Crutchfield (888)955-6000. It comes with all of the necessary wiring harnasses including the amp bypass if applicable, removal tools, detailed instructions, and any necessary brackets, etc... It'll run you about $20, and it's well worth it.

hey thanks guys. I'm gonna go ahead w/ the purchase and decide whether to go to Walmart or Crutchfield later. I just needed to know that it was easy to do.

I think I'll move on to component speakers and such when I figure out what crossovers are?

My harness costed like $7 at radioshack and i used two hangers to get the radio out of its holds.
