ummmm...if you look up the page where you got punked, the dyno difference is right there. I'm done, this guy is out there.

Actually that's not a dyno of horsepower, its a graph of pressure (Hg, in inches), but its just as effective.

That just shows the flow between two difference surface area. Put a 90 degree bent on that and the difference would be not that mush. Thats why I asking is the cost difference worth it? Show it to me on a dyno. Simple question.

Hey, you pay for my dyno time, take off my SVT exhaust and put on a crushed one, take that back off and replace the OG one, and you'll have your dyno plot. When are you flying in to NC?

As we stated in last months edition, mandrel bends are the only way to go when fabricating an exhaust system yourself. If you are making your own exhaust you can buy pre-made mandrel bends from Burns Stainless, Kinsler, Bassini, Maganaflow, Hooker or Summit Racing. The bends can be cut into the exact angle you need and welded together to make a free-flowing, no neck down system Beautiful Indy car quality TIG welding is preferable but high volume MIG welding makes welds that are plenty strong and serviceable if not the most beautiful. Take heart in the fact that almost all pre-made exhausts are MIG welded. Even the local muffler shop in the smallest town can make good performing systems like this. Don't ever let them talk you into a larger diameter crush bent system though. Crush bends cause stagnation and loss of exhaust gas velocity even if the bigger diameter can make up for the flow loss in the crush bends.

Normal exhaust piping is crush bent; the edges are "wrinkled" or compressed as they are bend. This causes turbulence, and a reduction in the diameter where the pipe bends.

Mandrel bending is much better quality, where the metal on the far side of the bend is allowed to stretch, and the metal on the inside is allowed to compress. The pipe is bent in a smooth manner, and virtually no reduction in diameter occurs. The reason that all pipes aren't Mandrel bent? Cost. The equipment costs significantly more.

Also when having a "mandrel" exhaust done locally, make sure you know whether they will be bending the pipe themselves, or using pre-bent segments and welding them together; the latter is a rather half-assed job.

Some people argue a 2.5" crush bent system will be comparable to a 2.25" mandrel bend system. This could not be further from the truth, and is a complete myth. The volume might be closer, but the flow velocity will suffer because of larger piping and turbulence.

Now, let's talk price. What exactly is the price difference between a crush and mandrel system, identical in every other way? I'm having trouble finding prices since every single aftermarket system is mandrel bent, including the factory SVT system! I dunno why no one offers crush bent systems...

I work a lot with dynos and that dyno chart is missing a lot of info. I never said mandrel was not better then chrush. I just said is it worth the money on some cars yes and some cars no. I know on my car I would put mandrel. But if I could get some thing better I would put that.
(Cobra Neck) flows even more then mandrel. The more you bent it the bigger the advantage. but I know the cost would be too much. Because nobody in the automobile industries offers it or even knows about it. Its been around for years on bikes.I just wanted to see if some one brought a new idea to the site what would happen.I can tell you my experience was not a good one. when people do not understand they just start insulting. The funnies thing is nobody ask what (Cobra Neck)is. It seems every body knows better.

You know what IS funny is that you say show me dyno proof of mandrel vs. CRUSHED, we do and you then switch to Cobra neck....also, let's get this straight one last time.
CRUSH, CRUSHED, CRUSHES, CRUSHING.....the different forms of crush.
correctly spelled C-R-U-S-H-E-D.

Now that is a well thought-out answer that is bound to illicit a favorable response from us

WOW, any credibility I would have given to you about potentially being right is completely thrown out the window with this statement. Temper, temper.
