I personally dont prefer them, supposially they get hot, and a good laptop IMO, is a Dell, I have a Latitude, and what I like about it, is the ease of changing the hardware, if I want a DVD-Rom in, just remove whats in the module. If you ever take apart laptops for a while you'll start to notice how allmost all the brands are using the same parts. The line between brands is becoming more and more blurred.



I have to agree and disagree.

Agree: I will agree that certian parts are starting to be shared across brands as they move to really compete with desktops. Like wireless lan, chips, hard drives, video cards.

Disagree: Things like motherboards are proprietary to dell, sony, hp because of the way that they design the cases. Also where things plug in to the MB in their relation to other things on the MB. Alot of companies are going more specific in their markets nowadays. Alienware wants the gamers, sony wants the multimedia plug and play people (plug you camera in, plug you camcorder in, plug you tv in).

This is why laptops will always be one step behind Desktops. Asus can build a Desktop MB for any CPU in a few days (just a guess), exp: the 64 bit processors. Now Laptop companies have to try to design a case and MB for the cpu and try it out for a weeks. See if there is a heat issue. Redesign the fan, redesign the MB to move the chip closer the edge of the case for better cooling.
