Right now I'm in the market for a decent new laptop. It needs to have at least a 2.6GHz P4 processor, 512Mb RAM, a 128Mb video card, and a DVD/CD-R drive, and cost no more than $2000. It will be used for mainly videogames, internet, and homework. Right now my pick is a Sager NP4080v . Do you guys have any other ideas or good deals you know of? TIA

My girlfriend and I both have Sony Vios and we love them. They are a little expensive but well worth the $$.

I love Dell's. Check this out: http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=us&cs=19&kc=6V601&l=en&oc=5100FS&s=dhsI customized one the way you specified, other than they don't offer a 128MB video card so you'd have to get one on your own. But I got it down to like $1100. I have a Dell desktop and absolutely love it! Hope that helps. -Jonathan

The quality of Sager is outstanding. I would stick with them. It's by the same company that makes Alienware.

I just bought a Gateway M275XL Tablet and so far, its amazing!! Just over the $2k mark however, at about $2200.
If you plan to use wireless at all then make sure you take notice of if it is equipped with the Pentium M or the Pentium 4M... the M has the centrino chipset that optimizes for wireless, runs faster/more efficiently and uses less power. The 4M is the old 4 with mobile stuff built on to it... it works, but is less sophisticated than the Pentium M.

I hope you dont care at all about the battery life and are going to have it plugged in all the time.
The one you are looking at looks like it uses a desktop processor and while that will be a little faster than mobile processors it will also suck more juice right from the battery.
I just recently bought a laptop and I wanted something with a UXGA resolution so that limited my choices quite a bit (why have a big laptop screen when you can only use 1024X768?) I ended up with a dell Inspiron 8600. It is a widescreen 15.4" and I was not sure if I wanted widescreen when I bought it but now that I have it I love the widescreen and the high resolution.
I also wanted decent battery life so I got a 1.5 Ghz Pentium M processor (check out the benchmarks on the M vs the 4M before you decide you need the fastest processor Ghz around The M does pretty will against pentium 4M processors clocked a little higher).
My laptop gets about 4 hours of battery life with just the standard battery and if I remove the CD-ROM drive and put in the other battery I can get about 7 hours total. This is just doing normal homework type of stuff and if you are playing the latest and greatest games your battery life will be a lot less.
I have played Need For Speed Underground without any problems on this laptop.

Buy a Sony, I use to build their laptop for a living. You should see the standards that they go by. I will only buy Sony's computers after working there.
