I have a 99 tour, with some rust and 75k. I have done many 6k launches, rog 5k is not enough. Anyway, I would drive my current car, over any j body, any day of the week. You had a nicer car than you do now...fast 1/4's and j body's do not make it into the same sentence very often, and when they do it is involving too much money to be worth it.

Maybe, just maybe the 60 ft times are couple hairs and I do mean "hairs" quicker, but after that the the Duratecs power compared to the Ecotecs would come into play and drive past the "Cadavelier" (good one Todd ) Until the Cobalt gets the S/C'd Ecotec thats pushing 240 hp, the Cadavelier/Cobalt isn't beating the CSVT w/o the aid of a S/C! That being said, I do like the Cobalt, alot

I think he gets the point. He can say what he wants or believes but he'll learn soon enough what he got into with a J-body. Mind numbing suspension, "zippy" acceleration and I don't want to comment on the design and interior.

http://www.hahnracecraft.com/auto/Cavalier/Ecotec.htmI like how they say a BASE cavalier on 9psi could run 12's but definate 13's hmmmmmmmmmmm even cheaper than the streetflight! Hey enjoy dumping thousands...AND I DO mean Thousands of $$$ just to run 14s in your aging SVT. Someone said my platform was discontinued, uhh hello, Contours NOT made anymore. I dont know how this turned into a big flame war but here are the facts you CANT deny. 1. There is a larger amount of performance parts out there for j-bodys than Duratecs. 2. To get your CSVT to the 13s would cost more than a j-body going 12's 3. The inablity to fix anything on an CSVT without shelling a thousands of $'s out (i.e tranny, headers, any engine porting). While you can break down an Ecotec in your garage. So many other points...but hey you guys can defend your ancient 200hp(yeah right)tanks untill your blue in the face eventually you will have to trade your car in also. And while I'm sure most of you arent in college and wont buy an cavalier(cobalt) you will get rid of the SVT and will finally see how deep the money pit REALLY was.

So you can spend money to go fast in your new car. Stop the presses... I don't think anyone here has debated that fact. All I ever pointed out was that your statements about better warranty and better fuel economy were baseless if you're gonna modify. Oh, and I also asked you to back up the 1/4 mile numbers you were spouting off (which I never did see you do, not even in that link you provided; more number fudging)...
Go enjoy your Cavalier. I mean, did you honestly expect everyone here to take you to Chuck E. Cheese for a bon voyage party??? Talking up your new ride is understandable. Talking it up while trashing the one that 99% of the guys in here drive is quite another.
And hell, even I can't argue with a mad-tyte racer like this one, y0!!!
I'd cut my balls off with a butter knife before I drove anything with that ugly of a paint job.

Do really think an engine w/140 hp stock, running in the high 15's to low 16's, is going to shave off 2.5-3.5 seconds in the 1/4 mile with a turbo putting out only 9 psi, come on now I do agree with your point about the CSVT having 200 hp and the "yeah right" after it, can't deny you there, seriously The hp is overated on our cars and the modding can be expensive, but I'd take a stock SE over the Z-24 anyday. The Cobalt on the other hand, well, I'd have to drive it and it seems like a good replacement, but then again, how hard is it to replace a platform that came out 2yrs after Ronald Regan was elected president, the first time he was elected

Well, I happen to be in college, and not a cheap one by any means. I am proud to drive an SVT. However, my car is nothing for this campus. In one parking lot alone, a freshman parking lot, there currently sits a brand new '03 Lexus IS 300 6 speed, newer ('00+) MR2 spider, and newer (02+) Audi 1.8T A4. They have the ice and snow sitting on them. And everytime I stop to stare at them, I think, "Hey, that's a waste of money. An expensive car, just sits there in the snow, depreciating." Enjoy the Cav man. I mean it. But I'm not sure about dumping the money into modding it. Potential... sure, it has it. But with each mod, you lose reliability (something the Cav boasts), and you gain nervousness of it sitting outside, susceptible to door digs, drunk drivers, or anything else. If you want to talk about being in college, and how money is a factor, or whatever you were trying to say, go ahead. My $.02 is to drive the cav til you graduate. Then get something worthwhile. For example... my current to buy list for when I graduate is an M3, or maybe I'll splurge and get an E55-AMG.
