ok, i bought reverse EL gauges on ebay for a v6 w/ tach (goes to 130mph), i was hoping they would fit my v4 SE w/out tach. well of course NOT! they do but they are too small. u can see the black from the stock gauges behind them. so i was wondering if i could buy a gauge cluster w/ a tach and if it would work in my v4 w/out tach. if so how would i hook up the tach to the cluster? i know where to get the tach wire from the engine cause thats what i do at work, but hooking it up to the cluster is the problem. i really wan these gauges in my car. i was gonna put white paint or tape where the black is but i think itll look ghetto cause itll be a whiter white then the gauge faces. and are the harness' the same? ty, btw i did search but didnt find the exact answer to my question...

It's possible, I've done it. But the tach from the V6 won't read correctly, But if it's just for looks go for it.

simple plug and go. i put one in and didn't have to run a tach wire. keep in mind these cars are all built the same so everything is there in the harness, just plug and go.
oh and my tach works just fine.

nope, in a 99 you'll have to run a wire from the ecu under the hood to the back of the cluster for the tach

To work you would need a tach (don't even need the whole cluster)from a Zetec. You will still need to run a wire to the ECU.

How do you put the tach in your dash without the other cluster

First off, there are 2 different tach systems based on cable or wire. The pre 98s have a cable driven tach, the 98+s have wire. And there are different setups for the 2.0 vs teh 2.5s. Anything can be modded, but if you buy the zetec 98+ cluster, and run the tach wire, you'll be fine. They're going for like $20 on ebay.
God graced us with intelligence, let's use it.
