cel came on tonight on my way to work. autozone dude tells me it is code p0304 and then tells me it is the camshaft position senor circuit fault. only proble is that code p0304=misfire detected cylinder 4 and p0340=camshaft position sensor circuit fault. the car runs fine as i commute 100 miles to work. i am going back to autozone and look at the code for myself in the morning. has anyone had a p0340 and what does this mean exactly?

Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0340 indicates that Self-Test has detected a Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor circuit failure.
First step was to clear the code and see if it returns by increaseing rpm to greater than 1500 rpm for 10 seconds and repeating two times.
From here it depends on which type of sensor you have. Hall Effect (three pin connector) or VR (two pin connector).

That depends on what you have. I have never replaced it on mine because it hasnt needed it but on a Zetec it is very simple, it is held on by two bolts that are very easy to get to.
