ok - this is nutz, but my g/f bought a DELL last summer WITHOUT an AGP slot (don't get me started, it was before we were dating)

...anyways - who makes a good PCI video card, something DX8 compliant (or DX9 if possible) that is inexpensive?

anything has to be better than the onboard video... so HELP!

ooooo visiontek radeon 9100 (make sure u get visiontek, not sapphire),, 128mb I got it for $50 from www.tigerdirect.com w/ rebate,, not sure if rebate is still going or not,, but it's still a great deal and the best overall performing PCI card I saw anywhere.

Nvidia and ATI both make decent PCI vid cards. Check http://www.pricewatch.com and look at the 128MB ones. They're all right around $60 and would probably be better than what you have now.

yah, i figured ATI or nVidia were the best options... I'm all over that in the AGP realm (I have an ATI Radeon 9800 PRO myself)...

just wanted to make sure I haven't been missing anything in PCI-land the g/f isnt' going to be playing Half-Life2 or Doom3, just wanting to get some better performance for the kids games, etc...

I never understood why manufacturers did that. Well, I know why they do it, but it is shadey. Yeah, it saves them a few pennies but dramatically limits your upgrading capabilities. I recently upgraded to a high end nForce chipset motherboard this summer with 8x agp (and an 8x nvidia graphics card) and this thing screams when playing video games

I am an AMD guy myself and I won't buy another pre-assembled computer (atleast until I don't have time to continue building my own systems)

I got the 9100 128mb for $50,, surely you can either get a similar deal or get a better deal on the 64mb.... not that 128mb really is needed for kiddie games.

Or it could be like an IBM, all the systemboards have agp slots but they are only functional on a certain number of machine types . Most retarded thing I had ever seen at the time.
