I havent posted in quite some time but I did ask this question about a year or so ago. If I remove the center seat belt from the rear deck an add some sort of speaker set-up will I gain anything? I was told to upgrade the front door speakers as the rears are just for fill.

I have a Nak CD45 deck and would like to now add some speakers to the front doors as well as deaden the doors and under rear seat.

Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated

Well, I agree with whoever responded a year ago. Concentrate on upgrading your fronts. You can assemble some custom component speakers for under $100. Just look down the board. There been about 20 posts in the last month alone.

Then, I'd look into adding a sub and using an amp to drive both the components and sub.

Adding full-range speakers into the rear deck will just kill the front soundstage.

I have been driving the last few days with the rear speakers off. It takes away some of the "fill", but that is useless fill anyway. The sound is a lot more detailed and focused now, especially in the bass dept. When the rears are on, there is just saturation. If at home you have your speakers in front of you, and only in front (for 2 ch stereo, of course), why not in the car.

If you have a video setup in your car then the rear speakers come in handy if your video equipment has surround sound. Plus if you don't have rear speakers how are you supposed to here the music if you are in the backseat trying to score or if someone stole your car with you in it and threw you in the backseat? :p

I have noticed a speaker cut out in the rear deck though with the holes already there. What is that for and why is there only one of them? What size speaker will fit there anyway. So you guys don't think the back speakers do much? I think it makes the music sound more full and louder. I know you can bairly hear the rear speakers over the front so what about putting 3 way 6x8's up front and 2 way 6x8's in the back would that sound good? Plus I was wondering if the tweets from a Mach 460 system from a Stang would fit our Tours in the same place? If not would that be a good location to mount surface mount aftermarket ones? Oh yeah I have a Lightning Audio 150watt amp would that sound good with the regular speakers? It rocks the hell out of my 10" Pioneer, I think the amp is under rated just like Rockford Fosgate's they are made by them anyways. But do you guys think that would be a decent setup? Two tweets on the inside of where the mirrors are, 2 3 way 6x8's in front doors and 2 2 way 6x8's in the rear doors?

The hole in the rear deck is for a subwoofer that was used in the Mondeo. The diameter is 6.5" which is about the same size as the cone diameter of a typical 8" driver.

As far as the rear speakers, I always have used some type of fill for the rear, but you can't tell they are there. Whenever you have sound coming from the rear that is noticeable, it is bad for the soundstage. If you have a mobile video system with some sort of surround sound, they are necessary, or if you just want to upgrade the stock system without going to crazy, it's not a bad idea to run rears. Especially if you often have rear passengers.

Just finished a rear deck sub plus door speakers; click here and here for every detail.

One note, replacing the four door speakers with MB Quart 5x7's seemed only to increase loudness ability of the system, it did very little for quality (not that it wasn't better wink ). My advice would be to leave the factory rear speakers and focus on the fronts and a sub.
