I'm clueless about electrical stuff.

Keeping this in mind,

What are basic steps to installing cd player?

I just bought the wire harnesses from WeeBee Audio. The OEM tape player had two wire harnesses, but when I plugged in the new wire harnesses into old ones, I noticed both of the new wire harnesses were labeled "RR speaker, FR, FL, RL" with each speaker having 2 wires.

Another words, according to these new wire harnesses, there are only speaker wires coming out and no Ignition, Battery, or Ground.

Which wires are what?
It doesn't appear that Ford using standard color codes for wires (e.g. yellow=battery, red=ignition, black=ground).

Anyone know what the color codes are?

Oh, and while I was trying to do this, the interior lights and clock went out. I'm assuming I simply blew the fuse. I cant find where the fuse box is, although in the Haynes manual, it says its under the glove box!?!? I cant see any box, or lever for it!!!

Again, need help! confused
I just hope I didnt fry the cd player.
Thanks again for the help.

From all the cool contours I see on here, I'm sure someone must know something.

Thanks

First of all, if you are not familiar with wiring decks, why are you messing with it?

Sounds like you have bought a bad connector.

You should have sought help from a car audio installer.

The fuse box is located underneath the steering column.

What year contour do you have?

Its a 1996 Contour Sport.

I didnt think the job would be difficult.
I like to learn as I go along. I doubt its that difficult to install, but perhaps I'm wrong.

Either way, I'm going to do it myself if it takes me 1 minute or 1 month to do.....

Installed a cd player is really easy, however, it seems as if your wiring harness was faulty. There should be two parts to the wiring harness, one that handles the speakers only (8 wires, positive and negative for the four speakers) and one that is for ground, power, switched power, power antenna and remote turn on lead. I assume that you do not have any subs since you are installing just a headunit right now, and I do not think the Sport had a power antenna. Anyway, once you have the proper harness wired up, installing the deck is very easy, and you do not have to worry about the mismatched ford color codes. If you need instructions on getting the unit in, click here for some good instructions.
