I bought my 96 Mystique used and one thing i hadnt noticed is that the carpet was torn along the edges. so much so that over the years it started to give way and is curling up on the sides.especially under the back bench and the passenger side foot area. In a nutshell i wanna replace the carpet. but id like to do it myself. is this a real pain?

Where can i get the best prices on carpets and just how much work would i have to put in to end this nightmare. has anyone done this before? hmm maybe i should post pics...

A long time back some guy here put new black carpet in his Tour. It required taking out the seats, center console & the door jam plastic pieces. But it looked sweet when done!

I'm not sure if you have to cut holes in their carpet for the bolts for the seats or not. That would be the hardest part, and removing the seat belt anchors can be a PITA too.

I'm planning on getting new carpet too, I just need to make sure I have a weekend to do it!

I expected it to be a real grind... Im more than willing to spend the time working on it but if the amount of work is best left up to a car upholsterer i might just do it... i just dont wanna get half way thru it and realize im screweing it up... but i DO need to get a new carpet.

I'm in the middle of doing that right now

I'm matting my entire car - doors, floor, trunk - it's going to be soooo quiet . Didn't take too long to take everything apart but I did have help. Once we figured out the seatbelt setup on the driver side the other one was cake.

I pulled out all my carpet and padding a while back due to water problems, If you go into the general forums or trouble shooting, I can't remember where it is. I took out all of that stuff, not to hard to do at all. Just takes some time. the seats are the worst when putting them back in. And also taking the seat belt bolt off on the drivers side. You don't have too, but it buys you some extra space if you do.

I put black carpet in my 'tour, got it from the link nate posted. It is a PITA. You have to take your time (a lot of time) and be careful, once you cut, you can't really put it back together. It's not REAL hard to do, just time consuming and somewhat aggravating and I had a lotta help from a friend on mine. But it is a lot better than nasty stock carpet. PM me if you need any pointers, though it's pretty straight forward, just sucks doing it... I called an auto upholsterer right before we started taking my seats out and he said it would be like $150. Too much for me.
