I bought a 3.0L Duratec motor, but now I need the wiring harness. is it possible to use the 2.5 wiring harness on the 3.0?....and if I have a 98 motor does than mean i have to use a 98 wiring harness or are they interchangable?

It would be best to call Ford to be sure.

Ford won't have a clue. Or, more specifically, the people at Ford who do have a clue don't deal with the general public.

I'm pretty sure the 2.5L harness will work on the 3.0L engine, from what I understand, all of the sensors are in the same general location. Some sensors need to be changed (knock sensor I think, among others) because the ones on the 3.0L will have different connectors, and will not plug into the 2.5L harness.

I can tell you right now that the 3.0L engine harness will NOT plug into the computer harness on a Contour--the connectors are different.

Depends on the year if it is "truly" compatible. (numerous running changes occured to both sensor and injector connectors!)

However what ever year you pick you will have to "de-loom" a large portion of the harness because the sensor & injector routing is completely different.

I noticed that Ford seems to have totally dumped the industry-standard Bosch injector connector in favor of something that looks proprietary.

I guess the Bosch connector wasn't good enough??

Anyway, here's a link to the Motocraft wiring harness pigtail catalog:

Some of these will probably help if you have a connector that won't fit a sensor..

I found an 3.0L Engine wiring harness on Car-parts.com for $100 now this should plug into a an SVT ECU?...Right? OR is the pin diagram different? I have a 98 3.0L motor....so I have to ask.

The engine harness isn't what plugs into the ECU. The computer/power harness is what plugs into the ECU.

Look at your Duratec V6 engine. See the several plugs on the passenger's side of the engine, near the engine mount? Those are what join the engine harness with the computer/power harness. Those plugs are unique to the Contour.

Now I suppose if you were willing you could chop them off your existing engine harness and splice 'em to the 3.0L engine harness....

I think I'm going with the SDS standalone computer system....it would be better than having a chip burned. this will eliminate the need for alot of the wiring harness.
