Has anyone had the problem with the wiring harness where the insulation falls apart off of the wires? My car died the other day and the guys at Ford said this is the problem and that many contours have had the same problem (even a recall on 95-97 tours) but there is not a recall on the 98's like mine. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem, and if so if they have reported it to ford? I called thier cust. service hotline and told them about it, and the lady said she would foward the info to the engineers, but that nothing had been noted about this as of now. I was thinking if anyone else has had this prob, then we might be able to get ford to do a recall on the 98's also.

By the way, the wires I am talking about are the 4 red wires coming off of the pos. side of the battery running under neath to the fuse box. (on a SVT)

Try posting in the "troubleshooting" forum.....you'll get better responses than in the "dyno&drag" forum.... welcome to CEG.

Go check here! I know all about it. I replaced all my own wires....it's a rough job! If your car has under 100k on it...Ford will replace all the wires for free!!

yes, had that on a 96 ford... it the positive wire shorts out on the metal body and makes contact its like an arc welder, a fire waiting to happen... dont think it is a fuseable link like it should be there, with a fuseable link the wire would just melt, but there it would melt a hole into the car until the battery dies our or the car catches fire..... real good design by ford.. "hey, lets do this so we can sell some more cars."
