I've decided on the 6x8 excelon KFC-X688C's. A buddy of mine is also hooking me up with a ADS 4-channel amp (I dont know the wattage off hand) and a bazooka tube for $40 each. I got quoted $250 for the install at a local shop, and I hear they do pretty good work. Is $250 a good price?.. I was hoping it would be closer to $150.

250.00 for 4 speakers, an amp, and the sub? Does that include all the wire or is that just the installation?

That sounds about right. I had my girlfriends stereo installed for Christmas and it cost $370 cdn including all wiring and taxes. She got 4 speakers with crossovers, HU, 5 channel amp and sub.

Consider doing it yourself! The first door will be hard (learning process) and the last one will take about 10 minutes. I ran all new wiring throughout my car and installed components front and rear, It only set me back a couple hours (then I went nuts and fabricated a new defrost vent panel for a different tweeter) I can't see paying $30 to pop a speaker in a door. All you need is a screwdriver to get the panel off and a drill for new holes. It's up to you as it's your $$ but consider that with the money you save, you could be buying even better equipment, or just have more $$ sitting around. I guess I'm just too much of a do-it -yourselfer! smile

Another thing you should consider when do install of speakers yourself - is get some self drilling screws for metal.
