Hello All,

I have a 98.5 SVT contour with the Duratec engine. THe manual says to "watch" the belt after 90,000 miles for wear. I have 101,000 miles now, the belt looks good, but should I change this to be safe.

Will I puke the motor (valvetrain) if it snaps?

Thanx

Duratecs have timing chains.

so I guess I'm OK with the existing belt. This car just runs and runs.

The belt you can see is a "Serpentine Accessory Belt" NOT a timing belt. (which you have since learned the Duratec does not have)

I would most definitely change that belt if it has 100k on it.

My belt showed signs of wear (cracks) after 50K. You'd be skewered if it broke.

Yep same here. I got about 50K on mine and I could hardly believe the thing was still in one piece. Change it. It's pretty simple and well worth it. If only for the piece of mind.
