There are signs in some Alabama towns that say "Police Jurisdiction". The police can act like the judge and sentence people and take them to jail. They can require a person to pay the fine on the spot or be taken to jail.

Is the question which one should you pick? I'd take deferred and save the defensive driving for the next time in case deferred isn't offered.

Yup, that was going to be my recommendation too, save the defensive driving for something more severe.
