Flashing your lights at someone to get them to move out of the passing lane is perfectly legal in VA, in fact it's in the lawbooks that a "driver shall move over upon an audible or visual signal that the driver behind wants to pass" or something like that.

In MD, flashing your lights at someone is aggressive driving

78 in a 65 means it was just your time. My friend won't even fire up the lights for anything slower than 15 over unless it's residential. Sucks he got you at probably the fastest you'd do in that situation though.

Hmmmmm sounds kinda like.............. YOU maybe???

If you would have read all my posts, you would have noticed that I am not badmouthing cops for doing their job... Im saying that for a cop to do Mach 5 to catch up to me to see if my plates are expired is a little extreme... If he's behind me and notices it, then yeah I had it coming to me(not that my plates are expired), but for cops to do triple digits to catch up to an innocent motor vehiclist puts people at danger.. They always seem to do it on backroads where there are always deer and other animals.. How would that officer explain running off the road at 90mph on an empty backroad if a Racoon runs out in the road and he wasn't on hot pursuit? "Ummmm sorry chief, I was trying to catch up to this guy that was doing 3mph over the speedlimit, I figured he was drunk because of his excessive speed"... Get a life buddy and stick to the reserves.

Entrapment means you were enticed to do something you wouldn not have otherwise done. It seems pretty clear that you would have passed (and sped) in a similar fashion if the officer wasn't there (you said yourself that you didn't know it was a cop until he hit you with the lights). Therefore, all he did was his job. The ticket is your fault, not the officers, and he did nothing to "entrap" you. Tell that story to a judge, and see what happens.

No intention of bringing it to a judge. I know I was speeding and will gladly pay the fine.

Would I have done it if he wasn't there... Yeah, I would.

But my point is that he shouldn't have been there. There are signs every mile along 35W that "Left Lane is for Passing Only". This cop was in the left pacing a semi in the right with no intention of moving over, meaning if you wanted to pass you had to go around him. If he had been in the right lane where he should have been since he was not passing I, and the rest of the cars behind me, would have kept cruising along at 73-75mph like always.

I am just curious why you quoted a post I made in reference to something RGSOUNDF? Before you go knocking someone who voluntarily puts their life at risk to help people, and holds a steady paying job, maybe you should learn to read first? I never personally attacked you Mark, I asked you some questions that you obviously failed to answer. I cant answer for what every cop does, only what I see with my own experience. The point I have tried to make time and time again, which is obviously so above your comprehension, is this; We will sometimes look for small infractions in order to pull a person over in hopes of scoring a drug bust or another crime. If the person appears to be okay, they are on their way in a matter of 2 minutes AT MOST.

This I do not understand, as you should be able to pull a driver over for driving erratically.

As I understand it, if he hadn't been driving with his foglights on, you wouldn't have been able to pull him over even though he was obviously drunk?

You have to find some other reason to pull over an obviously drunk driver?

Something's wrong with that.

No, you have mis-read man... At the time we got up behind him he wasn't dricing erratically, so the only reason we pulled him over was because of his foglights on. If he didn't look stoned when we asked for his liscense and insurance he would have been on his way in 2 minutes at most. But he looked stoned, we could smell alcohol, and he had a 30 pack and a 6 pack of beer in the car with neither of them over 21. -Nick

That and I don't consider 75 on 35W to be speeding so I wasn't really looking for cops. At that speed you're still hindering the natural flow of traffic around here.

#1 He was doing the speedlimit in the left lane, who the hell does the speed limit in the left lane if it's not a cop? Think about it.

#2 It was a "plain white" Camaro, a typical unmarked unit color.

#3 There were probably other signs you didn't pick up on (extra antennas, Texas "exempt" tag)
