No, I'm angered with the gawkers...not the police who are doing their jobs. Feel free to expand on the other familiarities of myself that you intuitively know.

I agree; however, power is not measured by degree as so much how one utilizes it.

2003 Florida Statute 318.18(3)(b):

For speed exceeding the limit by:

1-5 m.p.h. ............ Warning
6-9 m.p.h. ............ $ 25
10-14 m.p.h. ............ $100
15-19 m.p.h. ............ $125
20-29 m.p.h. ............ $150
30 m.p.h. and above ............ $250

It seems the NHTSA isn't up to date with its state traffic laws.

It's the federal government, what did you expect?

Unless FL is different from everyother state that I am aware of, there is no LEGAL CUSHION , this is a common myth, The officers are just giving people a break, the law says 45 its 45, not 50 no such thing as a cushion.

For all you cynical bastages out there think about that for a while, gee the police really do cut me some slack! For criminy - most of the guys I know wont even pull you over till 18 over- just so they get the people really speeding - not the everyday joe im going a hair to fast.

So bust every guy's ass for going 10mph over the speed limit... Hell I want to see a cop pull over another cop for going 30 over WITHOUT THEIR REDS AND BLUES ON!!!! Im furious when I see a cop doing 75 in a 40 for no reason at all... Until you have your damn lights on, you are just another motor vehiclist, so if you're in that big of a hurry, you probably should think of a different profession. Get off your high horses with your law enforcement crap.. So I don't know every single law, but I'm sure if I started talking jibberish about my profession, then you wouldn't have a leg to stand on either..

Oh get over yourself. I don't think I've ever seen such blatant speeding on the part of the police, or blatant ignorance on the part of someone on this Forum. It doesn't matter if you saw it everyday, cops will regularly begin a chase or go to some scene without lights on. You don't always want to warn everyone that you're coming. The difference is that they're trained to go that fast, the average citizen is not.

In fact, it's far more common in my experience for cops to play the game of "Let's see how slow we can go on the freeway before someone is willing to pass us." And that's just stupidity on the part of the other drivers. I've been stuck behind people going 45 in a 65 because they refuse to pass the cop.

And talk about getting off a high-horse. The only high-horse I see here is all those saying that cops do nothing but cause problems and take away their rights as citizens. I'm sure everyone here would defend their profession if everyone claimed they did nothing but hurt other people for fun. Cops catch enough [censored] everyday without more ignorant people jumping on them who have no desire to learn anything other than what they already think.

Go [censored] yourself, and then go live somewhere the police don't regularly serve.

To start a chase or whatever without the lights on is unsafe in and of itself. Having someone going that fast above the speed limit with a siren to warn people is just asking for an accident. And I can vouch for the fact that I've seen plenty of cops speeding without the siren AND changing lanes without using a turn signal. We should be able to document such infractions of the law and send a ticket to their residence.

I'm not trying to say that that sort of thing never happens. I'm sure it does for no reason at all. I've driven 75 in a 40 before, so simple logic would assume that there's some cop that's done it before too.

But to make it sound like every cop in the world does that and they need to get off their "law enforcement high horses" because they're always breaking the laws too, is just an ignorant statement.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't hold the police to a different standard than I hold myself, as your average good citizen. But I have noticed that most people in this world are quite the hypocrits.

I agree, police are there to make a living. That is why so many deal drugs after they leave law enforcement. They know who to pay off and dealing drugs is easy money.

I know sheriffs who have made a career of law enforcement and when they retire they sell drugs to make a living.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I almost never use my lights/siren when going to a domestic. Why? Because I don't want them knowing I am on the way. I park several houses down, walk up to the door, and listen for a couple minutes. You would be amazed how much people lie, even the abused spouse who just called for your help... Those that say police should never exceed the speed limit without the use of lights/siren have no concept of actual (not hollywood) police work.

By the way, refusal to pass even at ridiculously low speeds is an indicator of criminal activity. We are taught that. It's only one of very many indicators.

Again, no concept of actual police work. Further, I would like to invite you to Iraq, where there are virtually no police. You think we have traffic problems in the states? You have no clue. Be thankful someone is there enforcing our laws.
