My uncle says if they ever get your number they won't leave you alone. Maybe that cop has been watching you.

A man I know got caught cooking up methamphetamine. His ex wife is a probation officer so he got probation. He went fishing and parked in my driveway. The police saw him and they watched me for months after that. I don't like illegal drugs and the crimes illegal drugs cause so I told the man not to park in my driveway. The man was probably planting pot plants because it was nice spring weather.

I think if you go to court the judge will dismiss the case if you have insurance on another car and you had the car registered. Did you have your car registered?

Yes it's registered in my name. See my other post about the absence of a judge.

Jeebus. I never griped about being cited for no insurance.

My bad, man. I misunderstood your post about her "ticketing you anyway", although she surely knew that you wouldn't have an insurance card on a car your just bought.

She really should have explained the law though.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that the only way the officer could still ticket you was if they actually "pulled you over"... If you were stopped, your car was shut off, and you were out of your car, then she has no real proof that it was a "traffic stop".

My dad had a similar situation where he was being followed, so he made a few turns, pulled over to the side of the road, turned the car off and threw his keys in the backseat and when the cop finally go up there, turned his lights on and approached his car, there was nothing the officer could do because he hadn't actually pulled him over...

Might be something to look into

But then again Horse might be able to chime in because I'm no expert with the law..

Most state troopers here have videocams in their car and AFAIK what's on the tape is considered evidence in court.
I don't think you can get away with the stopping trick if he recorded your wrongdoing...
Probably it's just more hassle for them to get the person later and they're lazy and go for the easy ones.
(for example if your face is not visible on the tape, you can say that somebody else drove your car and so on... they
don't have these problems when they pull you over)

There's a difference between upholding law and order, and harassing citizens, setting traps, tricking them actually into breaking the law. This attitude adopted by cops rightfully gets them their nicknames they are often addressed as.

I could careless if I get a ticket for no proof of ins. Shoot sometimes I say I dont have my card on me just so I get that ticket instead of something worse, that way they can still give me a ticket instead of one for speeding 10mph over

But on a different note, I was pulled over twice last year once basically because it was 1am and the bars let out around then and they were doing a random check for DUI's, the officer was a dick and made be do the breathalizer like 4 times and I had no evidence that I had been drinking, he hadnt followed me long enough to watch me drive!

The next time I was pulled over and it was my fault, I was approaching a stop sign at a perpendictular intersection and I rolled through it pretty fast, but the intersection was clear for miles around and it was late at night. Needless to say the only other car was the squad that was parked on the lawn about a 1/4 mile downt he raod and watched me do it! Ends up the officer was very nice and treated me probably the best I could have expected. He let me off on the stop sign and wrote me one for no proof or current ins!

Then last night I was pulled over at 12am because my windows appeared to be tinted too dark!!??!! I'm like how can you tell how dark they are at night? He basically ran my info and came back and said have a good night!

Some cops are dicks and others are just your average joe. I was in law enforcement for a while and some of those folks are on a huge power trip!

So I get pulled over in my own driveway last night. Failure to signal a turn. It was one o'clock in the morning and the cop was the only other car on my deserted neighborhood road. She comes up behind me (yes, she) and flips on her lights. She fails to identify herself and requests to see my license.

So, because you and the officer were the only 2 on the road at that time of day, it makes your actions somehow less illegal? When you see those red and blues behind you, you need someone to identify themselves? Yes, there are freaks out there who would impersonate an officer, but I'm sure they would "identify" themselves too.

At this point, I'd been at work for ten hours and, like I said, it's one am and she's obviously looking for someone to hassle. I asked what I did wrong and she mumbles something about failing to signal a turn and how it's a valid traffic stop. Whatever.

Yeah, she said to herself, who's night can I screw up now? She was likely fishing for something further. I do the same on every traffic stop. Every stop is a criminal investigation. You want cops to do something about crime? Well, criminals have to get around somehow too. What better way to discover the crime than to investigate every encounter?

Quote:

She must have run me through Interpol because she took long enough. She came back and checked all around the car to see if she could find something wrong. She asks if I have insurance. I don't. I just purchased the car and I'm about to sell it. So I get cited for lack of financial responsibility. This is the same as simply failing to produce proof of insurance or keep it in the car.

Not likely, sometimes computers are slow. I've waited 15 minutes before for a 27 or 28 inquiry. Just show the judge your proof of insurance and the ticket will be dropped.

So this happens at one am on 01/20. Five minutes ago, at noon on 01/20, I added this car to my existing policy. The liability insurance card will show effective today, 01/20, until my renewal date in March. Here's my question:

Am I technically covered for the dates of 01/20 until my renewal date? When I take my insrance card showing a start date of 01/20 and a ticket for lack of insurance on 01/20, will it get dismissed?

In Texas, a ticket for failing to produce proof of liability insurance is dismissable if you can produce proof to the court that you were, in fact, covered on that date.

Cops don't really suck. This chick might have had a bad day, but she was a b*tch. I was an jackass right back to her, though. I probably could have handled it better.

Usually insurance cos will cover you for about a week when you purchase a new car. YOu are automatically covered as long as you have a valid policy on another auto. Call your insurer, and understand that police officers are people too, just doing their job.

Eh, not likely. Did she observe the violation on a public way, and was she in a legal position when she observed it? If yes on both, she can follow you in your house if you flee there. Sorry, your driveway offers no shelter from the law.

When I got to the city limit I slowed down and he pulled up beside me and said over the speaker "slow it down a little". Most cops are not the best at judging situations. It is better to try to talk to the judge than to the police.

Funny, I don't fit that profile at all.... I'm near 31 years old, for one. High School was quite a while ago. Sounds to me like you are the recent grad, if that...
