Hi. I've tried looking around for the answer to this, but seem to be getting more confused, not less.

I currently have 205/50 - 16" tyres on a 6J" rim.

I am looking at fitting 215/50-16" on a 6.5" rim (dont ask why - acquiring a set!)

I want the second set b/c i intend doing some track work and eventually to fit motorsport tyres to the new 16"x6.5" set.

The 215/50-16 is a very hard to find tyre.

Two questions:

1. Will 225/50-16 fit without rubbing? Or will i need to go 225/45-16 or is 225 just too darn wide?

2. Will 205/50-16 onto the 16x6.0" rim? Or is the rim too broad for the tyre?

I'm not hugely worried about change in speedo or gearing (within reasonable tolerances - say 5%). I also appreciate that there will be differences in ride/handling with the varous size tyres.

Thanks in advance , and for any other suggestions.

Doc:

The 225X45's are basically the same height as stock and less than an inch (America speak ) wider so I don't think you'll have any problems. The 50's are almost 30 mils taller and might very well bring on the dreaded "syndrome de rub".

Thanks Sarge43 and StripedSVT.

I like the idea of 45's anyway! But unfortunatley $$$ = ouch! Oh well.......

Sorry to be a PITA - Would the 205/50 fit on the 6.5" rim (as opposed to the 6" it's on at the moment? I cant seem to find the answer to this anywhere....

OK. Found the answer (I think)

According to specs on www.yokohama.com.au

A 205/50 - 16" will fit on rim 5.5" to 7.5"

225/50 needs 6.0 - 8.0

So hopefully no problems with 205/50's which is reasonable common here in Aust.

Thanks for advice re: sidewall size. i guess the easiest is when i go fo new tyres onto the 6.5" rims, actually go DOWN in width to 205/50's, and accept the speedo out by about 1.5-2%

Cheers!
