I'm planning on, as my subject says, doing a full system in my car. It's a 97 Eldorado. I'd like recommendations on the entire thing. I'm not looking for sheer power, but I want sound quality. I'd like it so that when i turn it up, you do feel the bass thump, but I want the entire sound to be pure quality. I don't plan on blasting my ears into submission, but having beautiful music.
The things that I want advice on:
MP3/CD player (with ability to control my 10cd trunk changer.)
AM/FM (casette would be nice, but not required)
Door speakers
any additional speakers to perhaps add
sub woofers
how I should have them set in there (ported,
a basic box, chambered, directed into car, etc?
what kind of amp, specifically.

Other details, I'd like the parts visible to be either black, or silver, and of high quality. I love my baby, and I want to maintain the whole, sporty, fun, high performance, yet refined feel to the vehicle. I know, I sound like a guy obsessed with his car...
shocked shocked shocked I need help. frown

Words of wisdom...
-I'm too old for this sh*t.
-Dirty jews have well laundered money.

First question I would have would be what kind of 10 disc changer do you have? If it is a stock changer, you won't find an aftermarket HU that will control it. Is the Stock unit a single DIN (2" high), DIN and a half (3") or double DIN (4")?

Dave, check his sig. Sony CD changer.

Caddy guy, you forgot to list a budget.

Since we're not familiar with the ETC stereo, we'l have to check out Crutchfield's site for details on sizes of the stock system.

What do you mean "turn into?" :p

Crutchfield is no help to find out the stock size. They don't list any replacement speakers for your car. It does say front door and rear deck, though.

Iceheart, do you know the stock speaker sizes?

Maybe the stock Bose system was never actually was installed. They just marketed that it was there and people thought it sounded really good!

That Caddy has got a Bose system in it with all of the dumb quirks that go with it (external amp, odd ohm speakers, and goofy HU).

It'll need a near complete system rewire for adding aftermarket speakers and a new HU, not to mention adding subs/amp.

It's not the ETC btw... 97 Eldo, base model, and the changer is on an fm modulator. It's aftermarket, and the current amp and speakers are afermarket as well. Speaker size, I don't yet know. But I'll probably try and find out shortly.
