Same thing happened to me on my first day! Except mine broke as I went around the block from my house... My car hadn't really been driven much in the few months before I bought it, and as soon as I got on it hard, it broke... oh well...
Consider it a CSVT initiation!!

Problem solved....thanks to this site....if I hadn't have found the FAQ, and confirmed it on these forums I probably woulda had to do a lot more running around.
Windsheild washer problem is fixed too...thanks.
Unfortunatly, the pump I got DID have the plastic impeller...I had to drive 60 miles to get it, as no other place had it in stock (I NEEDED the car to get to work tomorrow as the other guy in my dept. is gone on a trip this week). Next time the car goes into the shop I'll probaby pick up another waterpump with the metal impeller and change it, cause I don't want the thing breaking in the middle of nowhere.
Another problem, and this one I am going to get taken care of right away...is that my original impeller came out in pieces, lots of little ones, and it didn't appear that all was there. Gonna have to get the cooling system flushed I guess.
Anyway, thanks again guys. Hope my initiation is over...today was a hectic day (the fact that it was a Sunday didn't help).
Take care.

It's good to hear that everything is okay with the new (to you) car. The forums here are a huge help. Bye the way, welcome to the family. I had a similar experience when I went with a buddy to test drive a 98 CSVT he liked. The car started over-heating 1/2 way through the test drive. We had to leave the car at a quicky mart, and hitch a ride back with a person from the dealership. The best part is during the drive back to the dealership the salesman asked if we were interested in the car.

Glad everything worked out. Remeber my response to your original post??? I mentioned the WP as one of the main issues with the 98 SVT. Atleast all is well now and no other damage occurred. Where abouts in VT do you live? Maybe once the weather gets nicer we could do some cruising!!

For future reference, I got my water pump with the metal impeller from CTA Motorsports. They're listed under mods/parts. I think it was around $60.

phd2be, Actually, I did notice that when I was reading it again a couple days ago...good call...lol. I live way up north in Montgomery...that's up near Jay Peak ski resort. Moving to St.Albans when we get our house built. I work in Williston though, that's right near you. If we ever get decent weather we'll have to hook up. You can check out my car and educate me on these babies. Email is josh@cvboyz.com Take care. -Josh

That should be fine. There is nothing inherently wrong with a plastic impellar, it's just that Ford used the wrong type of plastic in earlier duratecs (black). They started using a revised wp (white) in later duratecs, I think '99 and newer. I have not heard of anyone complaining about the revised one breaking apart. If someone has please... me.

Hey Josh,
As mentioned, your replacement waterpump should be fine, even though it's plastic.
Also, when you get some time, stop into the New England Forums and say hi. We're a great group of people that get together regularly. We don't usually make a trip that far north, but maybe you'll be interested in joining us for one of our meets.
