I worked at a Saturn dealer this past summer as a sales consultant and they are pretty good about giving fair value for your trade-in. Heck they will even just buy your car off you so you dont have to trade it in as long as it is something they are looking for or sell regularily.

The way they figure your trade value is a combination of KBB which they say is a very high estimate and is usually worth a lot less than that, and what current models like it on the lots are going for as well as what they are going for at the auctions.

However I did work at a chevrolet dealer a few years ago in 2001 and that is when my 98 SE V6 with 30K on it was traded in and the dealer only gave them $4500 for a car that was still under factory warrenty! And so I picked it up for $5500!

It is much better to sell it out right if you can but the economy is so poor for the used car market that it is hard to get any money from a trade in or a out right sale. And that is why I am driving my tour into the ground!

Just some info for ya all!

The website for NADA is www.nadaguides.com and includes not only cars but "classic cars", boats, rv's, motorcycles, and even mobile homes.

Another place to check is www.edmunds.com where the values can differ just by location and even color (apparently some colors are more desireable than others, duh!)

When I used the link to check on the trade in value of my car, I got a value of $3220. But when I went directly to the kbb.com site and entered the same information, I got a value of $2880. Regardless, my car isn't worth much, which is sad, considering I paid $22,000 for it new five years ago. Remind me not to buy any more Ford compact sedans.

My first attempt came up....
Private Party Value (no value)
Kelley Blue Book does not attempt to report a value on a "poor" vehicle because the value of cars in this category varies greatly.
Private Party value represents what you might expect to pay for a used car when purchasing from a private party. It may also represent the value you might expect to receive when selling your own used car to another private party.

then when i switched it to fair condition. The body sucks but it runs good. i got a value of $1725. Still kind of high i think.

Now the SVT....146,000 $6,675
