How about a lake resort area in Iowa? While your fam is relaxing in a quaint little cottage by the lake and you open a cold brewski, Buckshot is near by up the road dropping in your 3L with the money you save by NOT going to Mexico, the Bahamas, Disneyland, Hawaii, Alaska.
Is Turkey Run in Indiana or Wisconsin Dells too exotic and distant for you? There are some neat places on the Upper Mississippi too, and you avoid Branson/Ozarks that way.
