Depends on if you are wanting to pay outright cash for the thing.
If so, yeah go with the Bronco. If not, and it was me, I would have to go with a Nissian (as Andy stated) Pathfinder or a Toyota 4Runner. In that same vain, but cheaper, you could always find a nice Isuzu Rodeo (Honda Passport) or Isuzu Trooper. The Nissians and Toyotas can be modded like mad and the Rodeo's & Trooper's mildly.
But for all out cash, you really can't beat an older model Bronco. You can do so much with them and since there is so much avaliable for them, you might find them cheaper to repair.
