if you are looking for an explorer check the rocker panels closely for rust, particularly under the rear doors they rot out bad back there, also they leak oil like crazy on the high mileage engines "EXPLORE THE EXPLORER"

Nissan Pathfinder or Hardbody Pickup!

The problem with America is stupidity.
I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment
for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety
labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

Depends on if you are wanting to pay outright cash for the thing. If so, yeah go with the Bronco. If not, and it was me, I would have to go with a Nissian (as Andy stated) Pathfinder or a Toyota 4Runner. In that same vain, but cheaper, you could always find a nice Isuzu Rodeo (Honda Passport) or Isuzu Trooper. The Nissians and Toyotas can be modded like mad and the Rodeo's & Trooper's mildly. But for all out cash, you really can't beat an older model Bronco. You can do so much with them and since there is so much avaliable for them, you might find them cheaper to repair.

I'd go with Andy's suggestion. I have a Nissan freak of a friend who has had 2 Pathfinders and had little to no problems with either. One was a 95 his dad now drives and his current is a beefed up 92. I hate to say it cause I bust his chops all the time, but Nissan make a heck of a nice vehicle.

I dont really need anything too reliable. Why you ask? Because I already own a Toyota. By the end of the year I plan on buying a Scion xB. I'm just looking for a nice cheap 4x4 to play with and to use when the weather is really bad. so i think an explorer it is, unless i can find a really good deal on a bronco.

Why not the Jeep Wrangler? The previous model (YJ) from 1987-1995 can be had cheap if you shop hard (4 cyl with a five speed). I have a 1992 with the hardtop and the 4.0 with an auto, it has 195K miles on the original motor (it leaks like hell, but it's never been apart, even the head hasn't been touched).

Think also of what the "new" car may need, and it may usually be another 1 Grand.
I say the big Broncos, more solidly built than the old Explorers.
