Yeap, I was about to do that beleiving Dexcool was the upgrade to the Green stuff, but other CEGers flamed at me, so I didn't do it.

Wondering if someone else did it with no problems.

I've done it... about 15k miles on it along with new pump housing, metal waterpump, belt and new pully.. Mine seems to run cooler, never passes O in NORMAL, that could also be because of my 180 degree thermostat.. who knows

It is a bear flushing the system out because the Duratec does not have a block drain. If you use the distilled water as one suggested it will take awhile. By rights when you fill the system with straight water you should run the engine up to temperature with the heater on to clear the heater core of the old coolant.

Even though it is a tedious process, I would go the distilled (or DI) water route. Again, this procedure minimizes hardness in the cooling system which is the culprit for scale and even water pump seal erosion.
BTW, I have been using DEXCOOL for over 5 years now (changed it once already), with no problems whatsoever.
In my opinion, the bad DEXCOOL rap is somewhat the same as the now dead synthetic oil rap. Something new and promising always meets with resistance and suspicion.

Thats good info. I wasn't being a luddite in my initial post. There will always be naysayers when something new comes along but the debate seemed to be 50/50 for and against on Dexcool.

I always buy the distilled water at the grocery store. It's by all the bottled water. Just make sure you don't buy the "drinking water" instead; that still has some stuff in it that will leave scale.

I had a problem with my high speed fan coming on all the time. I did the waterpump and thermostat as it went in the middle of this. Still had only high speed come on.

Checked the relay, the fuse and it was all good. It ended up being a resistor and my high speed fan problem was solved. Unfortunately when we removed the plastic shield under the rad as we were changing the resistor we noticed it was leaking coolant from the passenger side of the rad, from the left tank. Now I have to change the rad. My car only has 77000kms any idea why this would have happened.

If there is no visible damage, I would guess you plain and simple got a weak one from the factory. I am sure they replaced the coolant when they did the engine swap, so I can't imagine it being anything related to crud in the system.
