As you can see, I currently drive a '97 GL. I really want to get an SVT, but I'm wondering if it'll cause the insurance to go up. And if so, how much? My parents are nice enough to pay for it now, so I don't think it would be fair to make it go up on them. Thanks in advanced! smile

$3700 (full coverage though)a year for me, unfair is not the word...but anyway, I talked to the insurance lady about it once...and it is classified a "sports car" atleast a ccording to my company. Just tell them it's a regular contour, you can tell it's an SVT by the VIN but who knows they might take your word for it.

WRONG they wont take your word for it :p

once they enter that VIN its all over for you, i was told the SVT was a "semi-sports" car so they had to charge me a higher rate wink

Honestly, your insurance shouldn't be that bad. Even with a ticket or two on my record, my insurance was still only a little over a hundred a month, and that was when I was under 25.

I am paying about $2100/yr for the SVT in Jersey. I was paying $1700/yr before the rate hikes this year.

To put it in relative terms, I was paying $2400/yr for a GMC Jimmy before I got the SVT, so I was actually suprised when I got this quote.

I'm at $820 with NJ Manufacturers for the SVT, 30 years old, $1000 deductible, no points.

When I was getting insurance on the SVT two years ago I was 22. I had a perfectly clean driving record, but every insurance agency I talked to wanted to charge me an outrageous amount (because I was a male driver under 25 - didn't even take my driving record into consideration). I finally settled with Geico (who I've been very pleased with) for $960 every 6 months. For some reason it's dropped to $890 every 6 months. I didn't ask why incase it was a mistake.

BTW, I have a $500 deductable.

So yeah, your insurance will go up.

They can tell it is an SVT and there will be a little difference in the cost of the insurance. I found though that the rate for an SVT was way below a Probe GT. I would guess that it is because it is a sedan not a coupe. I found a similar thing in the past between an Escort GT and a Tracer LTS. The Tracer is the same car but with 2 more doors but the insurance was less. Just be happy you are not trying to insure a Corvette.
