This morning it was freezing cold so went and started my car to let it warm up. I went back outside about 20 min later and my oil temp is around 150 but the water temp hasn't moved. On my way to work the oil temp kept rising but the water temp does nothing so I freez on the way to work. My question is, do i have a faulty thermostat or what?

Also the engine fan is running constantly. The water temp came into the normal range but I still have no heat.

Most likely have a faulty thermostat. They are very cheap and easy to replace. Most people do it before doing anything else because of that, it normally cures the problem. By the way with a low of -4 in Lansing ysterday and cold temps like that, that is when theromstats go, if they were on the verge of brakeing they brake.

Thank you for the reply. The freezing ride home from flight training tonight was a bear.

The fan running constantly would suggest the engine is hot. A hot engine, along with no heat would suggest a possible water pump problem. IIRC, there is one sensor that controls the fan, and another sensor that sends a signal to the gauge. If the sensor to the gauge indicates you are okay, but the other sensor indicates you are hot, you may not have enough coolant. I don't know, I'm just thinking out loud here. I would start by checking the coolant level, just to make sure. Check the temperature of the radiator hoses and see if they are hot. If not, the water pump may not be pumping, or you may not have enough coolant to pump. Just some ideas to think about.

my mom's van had a problem similar to that it would run in the normal on the temp gauge but there was not heat. we replaced the termostat, waterpump, radiator cap, and coolant. finally we took it to nissan (its a 99 quest, very fast for a van too) and the went to work on it and it turned out to be some leak that was underthe intake manifold and to get there they had to drop the motor out it was expensive to do but hey no she has heat. so i would check your coolant level, waterpump and thermostat first then go into more complicated things

I'd check the thermostat and waterpump first.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll replace the thermostat this weekend, I don't think I put a new one in when I did the 3L. I have to replace an oil cooler hose anyway becuase I had a bad clamp that damaged the line. so i'm leaking antifreez lil' by lil'. If those don't work i'll try to get my hands on a new water pump. once again thanks for the suggestions.

Alright so i drove it again this morning to class, and the temp didn't rise a bit, also the coolent in the fill tank is cold so i know i don't have a bad sensor. But then once again my oil temp is a scorching 250 after lite driving. This leads me to believe that the water pump is broke, right?

Sounds correct. I wouldn't drive it much like that, otherwise you will have to change the engine again.
