if you read through the nys inspection laws it states that you cant be failed for your check engine light coming on if it doesnt involve a part of your emissions system...but you can be failed if the cel doesnt come on when the car is first started....obi is also right about not having the sniffer test in upstate ny..not yet anyways.....i've also heard that if you fail the inspection and the shop says it's going to cost more that 800.00 to makethe car pass the test you can get a one year waiver from the state to fix it....but you only get one you cant keep doing it from year to year.. i'm do in april worst comes to worst i'll "sell"
it to my aunt in pa, get the 5k or less a year waiver and call it good!!
