Pretty simple, the trac control use the abs sensor to detrmine the wheels speed and to compare the speed of each wheel. When the computer see a difference of speed between the wheels, it will close the throttle body to lower power or it will stop firing.
on the early cars that is part of it, it also uses the abs system to control wheel spin, but I think that is at low speeds only but I am not sure
