Last weekend I was replacing the much worn and patched rear reflector with one I got off a 1999 Contour at the junkyard. While doing this, I noticed two places where the car was cheapened that I haven't seen posted before.
Well, at least they got rid of the stupid brass inserts for the license plate mounting holes. However, the 1999 rear panel has no inserts (just threaded plastic) for the top two holes only with rubber bumpers where the bottom holes used to be. I hate when they don't give you bottom holes because the license plate rattles every time you close the trunk!
The other one involves the wiring for the license plate lights. I actually had to use the wiring from the 1998 panel as it wasn't compatible. The 1998 has sockets that the license plate wiring plugs into with tabs to hold the plugs in place. The wires themselves have foam sleeves over them, and are fused into the license plate light fixtures. The 1999 had plain wire that just ran to the fixtures and then had slip on connectors.
Not a big deal, but another case of decontenting.
