STOP!!! The alternator may produce extremely high voltage if the output is disconnected.
As I said, there will be no output from the alternator if the idiot light does not work. Check the bulb. If the bulb is good you will have to check the wiring from it back to the alternator.
What makes you think there will be no output from the alternator if the idiot light is burnt out? If you look at the electrical diagram you will notice a one way diode from the 7.5 amp fuse that by passes the idiot light. So even if its burnt out it does not matter...it will still charge. However with that said...you still have to have power coming in to the alternator on that same wire.The wire I said to disconnect was the output from the alternator...so as to eliminate the output cable, and see what he's got coming out with the alternator running in idle.
