My dashboard has started coming up from the window and the defroster vent won't stay down anymore. It looks really bad and ford wouldn't sell me a new vent. They said they would have to sell me the entire dashboard or something like that. Anyone had this problem and if so how did you fix it? Thanks for any help.

Here's an old thread that discusses the warped dash recall & what you can do. Link

If it were only that simple. I've been going over this stuff for a while now. The fix kit is 77 dollars, but the labor to install the kit can run you anywhere from 250 to 500 dollars depending on the dealership and whether they plan to take the dash completely off to install the kit. If someone has installed the kit on there own I would be interested to see a 'how to' or some description as to how difficult the process is and what tools are needed.

If you call Ford and raise hell with them about it, they will give you a deal. I complained for about 20 mins about how I bought me car from someone and he didnt know about the recall. Two days later the local dealership called and told me they would fix it for $10 + tax. The downfall is that it takes abt a day, atleast mine did!

Mine took 8 hours. * on monday, tuesday, wednesday and thursday. When I got the car back, the horn lights and signals didn't work as well as O.D. They pinched a wire under the dash. So right back in thursday, got it back at the end of the day on friday.
The 8 hour dash repair took 5 days. On the second day, we complained and they gave a loaner until that friday.

If it was recalled aren't they legally bound to offer the repair for at least ten years or so? That is such a crock that you would have to pay $500 to fix it. They tried to give me song and dance six months ago when I started looking into to it at the dealership. Think I'll go raise some hell with them!

It wasn't a recall. It was a campaign. I spent a total of an hour with the 800 # Ford uses for satisfaction and stuff. THey did it out of a courtesy to their customers they said. It's not a safety concern. Then when I really whined about it, they looked up my car, and told me that my car wasn't built in one of the few locations that the campaign covered, so there was absolutely nothing they could do. I was upset cause I have the Premium ESP, and they didn't care about that at all. My dealer was good though, and quoted me at $335 for everything, which was accounting for complete removal of the dash. They said 3 hours = $240 in labor, then the $70 for the kit and tax, and some weird fees. I am doing it during spring break (I hope).

They put the Kit in mine, they did not replace the dash. The dealer said it was a safety concern as the defroster vent could be blocked by the peeled up dash. It was a TSB and not a NHTS safety recall, but I bet if you insist it is a safety problem, you may get some help...

Does anyone have pics of their warped dashboard? Also, did this occur with all contours because I have a 98' SVT and I haven't had a problem (however it has been garage kept and never driven in the winter).
