Dr. Boom,
First of all, welcome to the site. I've got a couple of comments to your post, though.

Hey here's a suggestion(i'm a MECP cert. tech too!) let me know what kind of music u listen to. that makes a diff in the kind of box and subs u wanna use.
This really shouldn't be the case. Music is music regarless of the style. A good subwoofer should be able to play all types of music from Classical, to rap, to christmas music.
i will say this--ported boxes are good for loose bass response(like rap music) and sealed are good for tight bass(like electronic music).
Basically, you have described a poorly designed ported sub and a properly designed sealed enclosure. There is nothing about a ported enclosure that necessarily make it looser. Although, there are a lot of ported boxes that are not designed correctly based on the drivers specs and end up sounding pretty crappy.
I listen to both so i got a bandpass box--sealed in front and ported in back to combine the best of both worlds.
Again, a properly designed enclosure will sound great for all music. A bandpass box has some unique advantages over a sealed or a ported box, but one of them isn't that it is more versatile and combines the best of ported and sealed.
try audiobahn! good woofers and not too much $$ but u get what u pay for. make sure the inner box volume is compatible with the requirements for the woofer or brand dont mean diddley!!
I don't agree with the first portion but I couldn't agree more with the part about making the box the right size. In car audio you rarely, if ever, get what you pay for unless you can find phenominal discounts.
Please don't take offense to this, it isn't meant to insult you, just clear some things up.
