Well, the fact is in the article the guy said that the salesman only got a reckless driving ticket. Also the salesman was only doing what the dealership tells him to do.
I used to sell Nissans, and when I first started the first thing they tell you about test drives is that you floor the s.o.b. as soon as you get off the lot. Reasoning is that most customers will not really get on it due to the fact they think they shouldn't. I lit up the tires on a 350z leaving once and thought I was gonna be in for it when I got back. Not so, sales manager came to me after I got the sale and told me that was how to do it.

On a side note my dad is a sales manager at a Porsche/Audi dealership and one day while coming back to the dealership with the customer driving the customer flipped a brand new Porsche 911 Targa. Customer thought he was Mario Andretti and took an offramp at about 100 hit the brakes started to spin it when it hit a curb and flipped and tottaled a 85K car. My dad was in the hospital for 2 weeks. Customer also only got a reckless driving ticket.

Nope. Not even a little. I don't know about your state, but in mine a vehicle is a deadly weapon. Any officer can arrest me on the spot for going 21+ over the speed limit (at his/her discretion). Its called "driving with intent to kill." Since I don't know of any road in my state where 100+ mph is less than 21 over, I can safely assume that moving at that speed would get me arrested. The state's reason for this is that if I wreck the car at that speed, chances are very good that someone will die: me, any passengers in my car, or anyone else unfortunate enough to be near me when it happens. Anyone who can claim that they didn't know this is either incredibly stupid or a liar. Therefore, wrecking a car and almost killing someone qualifies as attempted manslaughter.

What the guy did was stupid and even more so than normal because of what I just pointed out. While I may not agree with his life being ruined the law is the law and he brought whatever comes from this on HIMSELF.

That is scary...come to show you how many unexperienced drivers are behind the wheel of very powerful cars!

That doesn't make a lot of sense either. Who decided that 21+ MPH is where the line is drawn to consider the vehicle deadly. A car driving recklessly at 55MPH on a highway can have the same outcome. Goofy state.

I hope the guy gets what he deserves (both employee and customer).

It's not always about absolute speed. Its about relative speed as well. Doing 51 mph in a 30mph residential zone is stupid. People are crossing streets not expecting a car to be moving that fast, kids are playing in yards, etc. On the freeway, if you're moving that much faster than the flow of traffic you're probably weaving around, cutting people off. All it takes is one wrong move...
