Correct; but they do check for a CEL. They do not plug it into an OBDII scanner at present. So clearing the code yourself is OK in NH as long as it doesn't come back on when they drive into the inspection bay.

Doesn't a 410 or 420 not really effect emissions anyways because the main cat will clean the exhaust too?

Technically yes, but a 420 is an emissions code and you will fail based on an indicated bad pre-cat.

Elky,
Did you have the Cats done under warranty. If so, was it much of a hassle? I got a code 420 this morning. My car has 78500 on it. I am going to the dealer tomorrow. I have a bad feeling about getting hassled. The dealer is Metro ford in Raynham.

except i had to wait 3 weeks for them to get the cats
other than that..no problems
