So I have been meaning to change the oil for a week or so now, today I finally did and wasn't too pleased with what I found. My mystique has 63000 miles on it roughly, and I have been changing my oil at about 5000 miles ever since my change to mobil 1 5w-30. This oil change was right around 5300 miles, and the oil looked very black. The thing that worries me though is that prior to changing it I checked the dipstick and it was a half a quart to a quart low, and I know I put 6 full quarts in every oil change. With the amount of miles my car has on it should I be eating that much oil, if any?
I was also wondering where I can find info on blackstone labs (the place that analyizes oil). I think I am going to go ahead and do that just to see if 5000 is a good interval or if I should shorten it a tad.
I was thinking of switching to amsoil next oil change, but now that I have discovered that it was eating oil I am kinda worried about possibly having to keep adding oil, especially since amsoil isn't exactly cheap.
